As an engineer you get to work with finance. It might take you a while to learn and progress in your career, but now is a great time to be an engineer! There are so many jobs for engineers, they do not have enough people to do all the work that is available.
How long have you been working as an engineer? How long ago did you graduate?
If you only graduated a little while ago, you need to think about that any career that you begin will not seem very interesting at first because you have to start from the very beginning of your profession. You have to learn about the business and how things work, you might have to do less interesting work as you learn about your job.
But take heart, engineering will offer you opportunities to progress into even financial roles within an engineering company if that is where you want to go. Engineering projects require people with great skill in finance and engineering – managing the risks of building multimillion dollar projects. If these are your interests and skills, you would do well as an engineer.
My advice to you, would probably be to stick with it. Engineers are in high demand at the moment. If you are really unhappy in your job, why don't you look for a job somewhere else? There are so many fields of engineering that you could maybe find one you like better? Also, if you are in a very large company as a fresh graduate, you may not find you get to see very much of the whole process of the projects, maybe if you were in a smaller company you might find it more interesting because you usually get to see more of the process involved in a whole project.
whatever you do, DO NOT choose a career like spelling bee co-coordinator because your spelling sucks big time!!
Ive been an Electrician a Fitness Instructor an Office Worker a Delivery Driver and a Police Officer, I hope my heart sings a little louder and my next choice is my last… im getting close, I feel it. Thanks
There are two sites I recommend:
http://www.eslcafe.com This site has a lot of information about teaching English overseas. In the jobs section, you can see where in the world the jobs are and you can read forums about teachers' experiences there.
http://www.tesol.org This site is for serious ESL teachers (TESOL=Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and has a lot of good information about the profession.
THANKYOU!! THANK YOU! NO decision is forever!!!!
Your library is a great source for career information… and it's FREE! Here's something else for you to consider. You need to think about the big three: Law, Medicine, and Business. Of those three, you can get started the quickest in business. If you enjoy people and like to listen, a career in sales can earn you a significant income. For example, if you like investing, you can become a stock broker… some easily earn six figures once they are established in the business. Of course, you can always take the entrepreneur path… decide what you love and build a business around it. I was recently in Napa Valley and the balloonists there earn quite a bit to take tourists on a hot air balloon ride… again, they love to balloon, and built a business on their passion. You can do the same. Good luck!
There must be lots of options for you
For a start – how about the nursery side of things – its very satisfying collecting seed, germinating, pricking out the tiny seedlings and nurturing them – then planting and maintaining them
Another option could be botanist – study of plants and their characteristics
Environmental scientist – management of nature including trees
Forestry worker – working with trees but not necessarily up in the trees
Or the other option is – go see a therapist – to help overcome your fear of heights
Good luck -a couple of website for you with some options for you
If you are looking for affordable advice, that focuses on the skills needed to succeed I suggest http://www.learntosucceed.biz. Their difference is that they give you a "hot line" number for free (one year of use) with their product. Under $30 dollars.
Good Luck
Getting in to the FBI is very difficult. Getting in to the elite NCAVC is even more challenging. I use to be interested in working for the FBI until I learned that you have no choice on where you will be stationed. Needless to say, I've researched what it takes to get in to the FBI. I also chose a course of study in college that will help to get in to the criminal justice system.
Working towards joining the FBI starts in high school. You have to consistently work hard to get good grades and boost your resume with community service and extra-curricular activities. When it comes to choosing a major in college there are several that the FBI recommends. Most people believe that Criminal Justice would be the obvious choice, but in actuality, that is not one of the recommended majors. The FBI's website list four majors that they are interested in. These include Accounting, Law, Language, and Computer Science. I recommend that you try to double major in college choosing one of the above mentioned majors and also psychology (to help with the NCAVC). While your in college you should definetly apply for an honors internship with the FBI. You must have at least a 3.0. Additionally, it is important that you maintain a high GPA your entire college career.
After college you could try and apply to the FBI right away. You may also choose to further your education and increase your chances of being hired by obtaining your masters, law degree, or doctorate.
Another job that might interest you is becoming an intelligence analyst for anyone of the federal agencies (military, CIA, FBI, DEA, etc.).
Thank you. Very inspirational.
Sounds like you haven't made your mind up. (duh).
break it down…. into "goals" that would make a better future. Lets pretend your 53 and have a Private Practice….In the "states". Insurance is still high, Medicare is not paying like it used to and your liability insurance is through the roof.
Would having the credentials to go over seas actually call its own weight in gold?
Lets face it, Health Care reform is not going anywhere, as long as the drug companies dominate level of treatments.
(didn't mean to go left field there)
Realistically, I'm just trying to shed light on the benefit of having the abilities to go and perform surgery in India or Europe, That is where most people with the "money" to do so are ending up anyway.
High Quality information, in only a few words!
Thank You!
